Most people aren't broken.
They're adapted.
There's a difference.

Lauren Tobey is the creator of The Spiral Framework and author of Spiraling Into Control — a trauma-informed educator who gives audiences language for the patterns that have been shaping them without their permission. Her talks don't offer steps or self-optimization. They offer something rarer: the moment an audience stops asking what's wrong with them and starts understanding what formed them.

WHY THIS WORK EXISTS

A pastor once said to me, "Well, it wasn't physical..." That pause sat in my head, trying to qualify my own experience. And I know I'm not the only one.

Lauren spent over a decade inside a marriage that slowly erased who she was — not through violence, but through the quiet accumulation of a thousand small adaptations. By the time she left, she had become so good at surviving that she had forgotten how to feel like herself.

Then, just as she was rebuilding, she was laid off from the executive nonprofit role she'd poured everything into — on the day of her organization's annual gala. She hosted the event. She broke records. She went home and fell apart.

Sitting in the ashes of a second identity collapse, she saw the pattern clearly for the first time. As architecture. That recognition became The Spiral Framework, and eventually, the book, the podcast, the app, and a body of work that has reached tens of thousands of women.

Lauren holds a CPD-certified Trauma-Informed Coaching Certification (IPHM accredited), credentials as an NLP Master Practitioner, a B.S. in Psychology, and an M.A. from the University of Denver's Morgridge College of Education, where her graduate study focused on human development theory, identity formation, and organizational change — with additional coursework in social work.

The thing no one told her — and what she now tells every room she walks into: "It counts." It counts if it was quiet. It counts if there were no bruises. It counts if it shaped how you move through the world.

Signature talks

Each talk is built on The Spiral Framework and can be adapted for keynote, half-day workshop, or panel format. All three are available for corporate, conference, and community contexts.

SIGNATURE KEYNOTE - ALL AUDIENCES

It Counts

Why the experiences we've been taught to minimize are the ones shaping us most

Most people walk around carrying experiences they've been told didn't count, because there were no bruises, because someone meant well, because others had it worse. This talk is built around the one reframe that changes everything: the bar was never severity. The bar is whether something shapes how you move through the world.

Through The Spiral Framework, Lauren gives audiences language for the patterns that formed them, removes shame from experiences they've spent years explaining away, and offers a map for moving forward without starting over.

This Keynote Is Ideal For:

  • Women's conferences and leadership events

  • Healthcare and mission-driven organizations

  • Faith communities and retreat spaces

  • Divorce recovery and life transition events

  • General audiences navigating identity and change

Audiences Will Walk Away With:

  • Permission to name what shaped them

  • Language for the Spiral phases: Ashes, Ember, Flame, Rise

  • A new relationship with the patterns they've been blaming themselves for

  • Clarity on the difference between who they are and how they learned to survive

CORPORATE & LEADERSHIP

High-Functioning Is Not the Same as Fine

How survival patterns inside organizations drive burnout, disengagement, and quiet quitting — and what leaders can do about it

Organizations are losing their best people — not to competitors, but to exhaustion that looked like capability for too long. High-performing employees who over-function, emotionally contain, and self-monitor aren't thriving. They're surviving. And they've been rewarded for it, which makes the pattern nearly invisible until someone is already out the door.

This talk gives leadership teams and HR professionals a new lens on burnout: not a wellness problem, but an identity and nervous system problem. Through The Spiral Framework, Lauren offers practical language for recognizing survival patterns inside teams — and creating the conditions where people can actually perform from presence instead of pressure.

This Keynote Is Ideal For:

  • Corporate wellness and HR events

  • Women's employee resource groups (ERGs)

  • Executive and leadership summits

  • People & Culture conferences

  • Organizations navigating burnout and retention

Audiences Will Walk Away With:

  • A framework for recognizing survival patterns in themselves and their teams

  • Language that reframes burnout beyond the wellness conversation

  • Insight into why capable people become reactive under pressure

  • Tools for leading from presence instead of performance

WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT

We Weren’t Meant to Live Like This

Separating identity from adaptation for high-functioning women who have done everything right and still feel wrong

She's capable, accomplished, and exhausted in a way she can't explain. She's done the therapy, read the books, learned the language, and still feels flat. Still reactive. Still disconnected from herself in a life that looks completely fine from the outside. This talk is for her.

Through the lens of The Spiral Framework, Lauren names the high-functioning survival patterns that get mistaken for personality — over-functioning, emotional containment, constant self-monitoring, performing strength — and offers language that restores self-trust without requiring women to become someone new. This is not a talk about healing. It's a talk about recognition. And recognition, it turns out, is what actually moves people.

This Keynote Is Ideal For:

  • Women’s conferences and leadership events

  • Nonprofits and community organizations

  • Healthcare and education audiences

  • Empowerment and advocacy spaces

  • Any gathering focused on women’s well-being and growth

Audiences Will Walk Away With:

  • Validation for experiences many women silently share

  • Language for recognizing high-functioning survival patterns

  • Insight into how cultural expectations shape identity, not just behavior

  • Tools for setting boundaries rooted in presence, not performance

  • A renewed sense of agency grounded in understanding, not self-blame

What makes Lauren's talks different

ORIGINAL FRAMEWORK

The Spiral Framework is Lauren's own intellectual property — not a repackaged methodology. Every talk is built on original research, lived experience, and a published book. Audiences aren't getting a remix of what they've already heard.

NO SELF-OPTIMIZATION LANGUAGE

Most burnout and wellness content tells people to try harder in a softer voice. Lauren's talks don't add to that pile. They offer something audiences are starving for: a reason to stop blaming themselves for patterns that were intelligent responses to pressure.

WORK FOR WARM OR COLD ROOMS

The Spiral Framework is designed to meet people exactly where they are — in Ashes, in Ember, in Flame, in Rise. Lauren doesn't need a room full of people already on a healing journey. The talk works for the woman who doesn't even know she's looking for this yet.

PRECISION OVER INSPIRATION

Audiences don't leave feeling motivated. They leave feeling seen — which lasts longer. Lauren's talks are known for the specific quality of recognition they create: the moment someone thinks "that's exactly it" and realizes they've never been able to say it that clearly before.
